THE MOST ADVANCED PIRELLI TECHNOLOGY LANDS IN US
Randy Gillenwater, Director of Tire Maintenance for Walt’s Drive A Way
My name is Randy Gillenwater, I am the Director of Tire Maintenance for Walt’s Drive A Way, in Evansville, IN.
Our fleet operates as a Super Regional, Regional and City carrier. Our fleet runs both low profile 22.5 and 11R22.5. We have been running Pirelli Tires since late 2015 with good results.
We have run multiple steer tires in low profile with fair to good results. The low profile Drives, at least my initial perception was “that looks like a steer tread”. The Pentathlon D drive performed well on dry, beyond my expectations; our drivers commented the performance in wet, snow and on ice was very good. Our drivers also liked the ride, handling and very low noise. The wear performance of Pirelli tires meet my expectations and have been on par with the other major brands of tires we run.
Based on our experience we will continue to buy Pirelli tires for our operation.
Fritz Krampe, Owner and a driver for SS Chad Express
My name is Fritz Krampe, I am the Owner and a driver for SS Chad Express in Effingham, IL.
It was just over 2 years ago that I was approached by my dealer salesman and Pirelli tire to evaluate Pirelli Steers G199 / FH:01’s and Drives TH:01 / Pentathlon D for my fleet.
Our operation is a combination Line Haul / Super Regional fleet. Both tread patterns (steer and drive) had a very clean look. I remember saying the TH:01 / Pentathlon D drive looked like a steer, I was concerned about performance on wet, snow and ice. I was never happier to be proven wrong, all the tires, especially the Pentathlon D performed well in wet, and was really good on snow and ice too.
Pirelli tires provided an excellent ride and low noise. As for wear performance, the Pirelli tires have met my expectations and been on par with the other major brand of tires I run in my fleet.
Based on my experience and that of my other drivers, I will continue to buy Pirelli tires for my operation.
Larry Mathis, Director of Tire Management for Indian River Transport
My name is Larry Mathis, I am the Director of Tire Management for Indian River Transport, Winter Haven FL.
I have been working with Pirelli Tire to help facilitate their market testing of a new Line Haul steer tire and have purchased several sets of their TH:01 / Pentathlon D for rears.
Our operation is a combination Line Haul / Super Regional fleet with several terminals through-out the USA. The TH:01 / Pentathlon D looks like all wheel position tire with deep tread depth. I was surprised that they were suggesting and selling this as a rear drive tire position. My concerns were traction on wet Florida roads and snow and ice in the northern areas. I have not receive any complaints from drivers about loss of traction on any type of road surfaces, but have received good comments that the about lack of truck hopping with automatic transmissions at initial start-up motion. The tires provided an excellent ride and are quite verses other open shoulder product we have used.
The performance overall is on par with drive tires we use, and I plan on adding additional Pirelli Pentathlon D in other terminals due to requests coming from driver who have been spreading the word throughout the network.
Tommy Nosworthy, Director of Maintenance for Rowland Transport
My name is Tommy Nosworthy; I am the Director of Maintenance, for Rowland Transport in Dade City, Fl.
Our operation is a combination Line Haul / Super Regional fleet covering majority of the USA. We installed several sets of the TH:01 / Pentathlon D into the fleet on different types of trucks with seasoned and young drivers. The older drivers had concerns of traction based on the appearance, but have commented that they have not experienced any loss of traction in wet conditions with part ice and snow. Other positive comments came from less experienced drivers about low noise and exceptional ride.
If the tires keep the performance as they accrual mileage we will install more in the fleet.
